Tournament Scoring System |
|
Modified Stable-Fjord Method with Proportional Representation
Match play with each side composed of two members—Team Heathcotte (2 players) vs. Team Non-Heathcotte (2 players).
1 point to the team with the lowest individual score on a hole but only if par or better.
1 point to the team with the lowest total team score on a hole.
1 additional point is awarded if both team members score par or better on a hole.
If there is a tie for lowest score between members of opposing teams or between the two teams, no points are awarded for lowest score in that category.
The total points earned for the entire round of 18 holes determines the team winner.

Example: Hole 17 at Kokopelli in 2006, par 3
Team Heathcotte: Brock 3 (par), Brandon 4 (bogie), total 7
Team Non-Heathcotte: Matt 4 (bogie), Jason 5 (double bogie), total 9
Team Heathcotte gets 1 point for lowest individual score but only because it was par or better (Brock’s 3) plus 1 point for lowest total team score (7 to 9) for a total of two points on the hole.
If Brandon had made par 3 on the hole, the team would have earned an additional 1 point for both members scoring par or better.

Because Team Non-Heathcotte is actually composed of more than two players, each player’s score only counts on a few of the holes played. The total number of player-holes must be 36 (two players per hole for 18 holes). To determine how many holes by each player will be counted, divide 36 by the number of players. In 2006, there were six Non-Heathcotte team members so each one played six holes that counted (36/6). Which holes count toward the team score is determined randomly after the round. This Proportional Representation rule will also be applied to Team Heathcotte in 2007 because it will have three members. |

Geirangerfjord is one of Norway's most visited tourist sites and has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005.
Stranda Golf Club (the green patch on the right-center of the picture) has only six holes with two of the greens still temporary, but wouldn’t you love to play the course anyway?
Yes, those are cruise ships in the fjord. |
